Vatican City has its own post office, a branch of the Italian post office called Poste Italiane (PT). However, Poste Italiane does not sell stamps. Instead, you can pay the exact amount for postage, and an adhesive label will be printed to affix to your postcard.

If you drop off your postcard in Italy, you may find a well-equipped tabaccherie with sufficient stamps. However, if you need to purchase stamps or require additional services, you may have to visit an official Poste Italiane office. Once you have the appropriate postage stamp on your postcard, you can drop it off in one of the bright red mailboxes scattered throughout Rome.

Rome's letterboxes have two slots, labeled "Roma Città" (The City of Rome) and "Tutte le Altre Destinazioni" (All Other Destinations). Only use the red Poste Italiane letterboxes to ensure your postcard is processed correctly.

You can obtain free boxes from the post office if you need packaging materials for your Italian Post Office needs. Additionally, you can also order free USPS boxes online.
